The Hyundai Sonata

Hyundai Sonata

Are you sick of seeing the same commercials with the same sedans year after year? Each one seems to get more boring than the next. Wait until you see what we have in store for you! The all-new 2011 Hyundai Sonata breaks up the monotony of the mid-size market with bold-not-boring styling and a new fuel-efficient engine.

The designers and engineers spent four years creating the sleek couple-like design of the new 2011 Hyundai Sonata. You can see their unique point of view along the elegant curves and arcs and also within the sculpted chrome grill and the raked roofline, giving it a fluid-like feel even while it’s standing still.

And at the heart of the new 2011 Hyundai Sonata is its new fuel-efficient engine. When you hear the phrase ‘fuel efficient’, you may automatically think that you will have to sacrifice performance. That is not the case with the Hyundai Sonata’s new and powerful 4 cylinder 2.4L GDI engine. The new engine will allow this model to get up to 35/mpg on the highway, a stark improvement from the 32/mpg that was achieved by its predecessor. It appeals to car lovers and nature lovers with a perfect combination of high power output and fuel efficiency.

You may be wondering how the Sonata can achieve such efficient gasoline mileage while still being able to offer an impressive 200 horsepower. One way is that by being the first vehicle in its class with standard Gasoline Direct Injection (GDI) technology. Most modern engines continue to inefficiently take in fuel, but with GDI, fuel is directly injected into the combustion chamber providing a more precise amount of fuel into each cylinder.

So, it looks like in a world where most automakers design play–it-safe sedans, there is only one intelligent choice: the Hyundai Sonata proves that you don’t have to conform to the norm in order to compete.

Why electronic stability control matters

MORE IS MORE.

The brain of the car is an amazing instrument — it has a lightning-quick ability to sense danger. However, unfortunately for us, in the time it takes the brain to send a signal through the neural networks and down to your braking foot, a lot can happen.

But Electronic Stability Control (ESC) only takes milliseconds to detect when things are going awry. Based on how hard or how fast you steer, a veritable army of sensors — which measure yaw, lateral G-force, steering wheel angle and the speed of all four wheels — determines whether your intended path and your actual path are in sync.

If ESC determines that the car is plowing, or turning less than you intended, it provides extra braking force to the rear inside wheel; if the car is fishtailing, or turning more than intended, it will provide extra braking force to the front outside wheel.

ESC comes bundled together with Hyundai’s Traction Control System (TCS). TCS keeps tabs on your tires, and if it detects that you don’t have the grip on the road that you need, it will reduce the wheelspin, allowing you to accelerate on gravel, snow, ice, and other slippery or uneven road surfaces.
Vehicles equipped with ESC and TCS have some impressive lifesaving stats: A 2006 study that was conducted by the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS) concluded that ESC reduces the likelihood of all fatal crashes by 43%, fatal single-vehicle crashes by 56% and fatal single-vehicle rollovers by 77 to 80%, all staggering statistics. The government has recently mandated that ESC be included on all vehicles by 2012, but Hyundai has set the bar even higher: the Hyundai Sonata was the first mid-size car to offer ESC standard and continues to do so today. More proof Hyundai is here for you and your family.

Safety is a full time job if you work at Hyundai

It takes a certain person to become a safety engineer at Hyundai. First, you must be able to imagine every single way in which things can go wrong. Then, you have to figure out how to right those wrongs It’s not much different from the concept at World Hyundai Matteson. It takes a special person to ensure that all of your customer satisfaction needs are met on each visit.

With that as a job description, it’s no wonder that our safety engineers felt it was important to equip the Sonata with as many features and technologies as they possibly could. Electronic Stability Control and an advanced braking system is standard across the board—both of which are designed to help you outmaneuver dangers on the road. But when it comes to protecting passengers, the Sonata’s strong, reinforced unibody design and advanced front airbags are there to help in the event of a crash.

Sometimes, people don’t brake hard enough. Sometimes, people brake too much. The Sonata is well-equipped with solutions and systems that will work together to help in either situation.

Brake Assist measures the speed that the brake pedal is depressed, which can reveal if the driver is in a crisis or a panic situation. But, statistics show that drivers often don’t brake quite hard enough, even in emergencies. In which case, Brake Assist will add that extra bit of stopping power, which can help to bring your car to a stop up to 20% faster than without it.

Meanwhile, if you should happen to hit the brakes a little too hard, ABS will help to prevent your wheels from locking up and sending your car into a skid.

But how your car responds to braking can change, depending on a lot of different factors, including road conditions such as snow and ice, how fast you are driving, and even the car’s weight distribution of passengers and cargo within the vehicle. So, to further enhance your control of the car, the 2011 Sonata comes with Electronic Brake-force Distribution, which uses sensors to calculate the amount of brake pressure to apply to each individual wheel.

So, while you never know when you will face an unexpected obstacle, at least you can count on the Sonata’s help in steering safely past any challenge you come across on the road.

All of which adds up to a Sonata that is one of the safest cars in its class. Safe enough to earn five-star front and side crash-test ratings from NHTSA. And safe enough that our engineers can sleep soundly at night. No matter where you are, be it the northern suburbs, the south side, or Northwest Indiana, World Hyundai is your Tinley Park Hyundai and Chicago Hyundai Dealership.

Sound system

A 400-watt Infinity® audio system. A six-disc CD changer and MP3 player. USB/iPod® and auxiliary input jacks. XM® Satellite Radio. Touchscreen navigation. Bluetooth®. HD Radio® Technology

It’s not a list that you would normally associate with a car with a reputation for value. And yet, there they are — technologically advanced interior features and options that can make driving safer, more convenient and just plain more fun.

But there is more to a comfortable interior than gadgets. Ergonomics, climate control, storage options, seat comfort — we have found a way to include them all.

Engineered to your specs

When you spend time behind the wheel, you tend to become an expert in seat comfort. So when Hyundai owners told our seat engineers—yes, we have engineers dedicated solely to seat design—that they were not getting quite enough leg support, we listened. We did many calculations and experiments, created and tested a large number of prototypes and, finally, brought them to the consumers to try. The result? A change in the angle of the seat cushion of—wait for it—two degrees. We also changed the seat cushion and seatback to be a little more than a half-inch longer and wider (sounds small…but it worked). Hyundai’s perception is important and so is Reputation Management. That is why Hyundai shares each and every review we earn with the public.

All in all, a lot of effort for what would seem to be a small change. Except for the fact that those two small degrees might help thousands of drivers cover many more miles even more comfortably than ever before. And that, in our opinion, is huge. So is your opinion. So when you visit car dealer review sites, let us know how you feel. World Hyundai Matteson is your Chicago and Evergreen Park Hyundai Dealership. We are here for you.
